CRPC-TR98741 February 1998 Title: Preliminary Results from the Application of Automatic Adjoint Code Generation to CFL3D Authors: Alan Carle, Mike Fagan, and Lawrence L. Green Submitted February 1998; Submitted to the 7th AIAA/USAF/NASA/ISSMO Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization Symposium Abstract: We describe ADJIFOR, an automated adjoint code generator for Fortran, and present preliminary results from the application of ADJIFOR to augment the CFL3D flow solver. Bsed on these initial results with CFL3D, we argue that, even in its infancy, ADJIFOR can deliver derivatives accurately and efficiently for use in aerodynamic shape optimization problems with 200 to 500 independent design variables.
