Instructions for Retrieving Center for Research on Parallel Computation Technical Reports Some of the technical reports issued by the Center for Research on Parallel Computation (CRPC) are now available in PostScript format through File Transfer Protocol (FTP), email, and gopher clients. Hardcopies of the documents will still be available from the CRPC for a small handling and postage fee. Files Available readme - an index to all online Technical Reports information abstracts - abstracts of the CRPC Technical Reports reports* - online CRPC Technical Reports trlist.ps* trlist.txt- these files each list all of the CRPC Technical Reports and information on how to order them through regular mail trs.online - this file contains are regularly updated list of the CRPC Technical Reports available online *all online Technical Reports and the file trlist.ps are in PostScript format; other files are in plain text FTP Instructions 1) At your UNIX prompt, connect to our FTP server with the command: ftp softlib.rice.edu 2) Login as anonymous; the password should be your userID: example: login: anonymous password: myname@myaddress.edu 3) You are now in the main directory of the SOFTLIB system; you now need to get to where the CRPC files are with the cd command: cd pub/CRPC-TRs (note: make sure to use caps as used above) 4) Now you are in the CRPC -TRs directory; to obtain the file trlist.ps (for example), use the get command: get trlist.ps 5) If you are interested in the abstracts or Technical Reports, you must move into the directory they are located in with the cd command: cd abstracts (this moves you to the abstract directory) (or) cd reports (this moves you to the technical report directory) 6) At this point, you can review the files available with the following command: ls -CF 7) To get one of the files, use the get command: get filename example: get CRPC-TR93334.ps example: get 93329.abst 8) You can exit SOFTLIB with the command: bye Email Instructions 1) Send mail to SOFTLIB: mail softlib@cs.rice.edu 2) Leave the subject line blank. 3) In the message body, use the send command to get the file you want: send filename example: send trlist.ps (to get the complete list of technical reports) example: send CRPC-TRxxxxx.ps (to get TR number xxxxx) example: send xxxxx.abst (to get an abstract of TR number xxxxx) example: send help (for further email instructions) 4) Please do not include any text within your message body, except the commands above. Gopher Instructions 1) If you have a gopher client, you can connect to SOFTLIB with the command: gopher softlib.cs.rice.edu 2) The CRPC files are in the softlib/CRPC-TRs/ directory: softlib/CRPC-TRs/ (main directory) softlib/CRPC-TRs/abstracts/ (subdirectory with abstracts) softlib/CRPC-TRs/reports/ (subdirectory with technical reports) 3) Browse or upload files by the means available with your gopher client. WWW Instructions 1) A www viewer (such as NCSA Mosaic) can also access the gopher server. To start XMosaic directly at the TR archive, enter the following at the command prompt: xmosaic gopher://softlib.rice.edu/11/softlib/CRPC-TRs 2) The contents will be displayed in graphical format, as files and folders. To download the files trlist.txt, trlist.ps, or others, click on the desired file. 3) The reports and abstracts are available in separate folders. To access the reports folder, click on it. The display will change to a new set of files representing the contents of the folder. 4) Each report is represented by a file. Click a file to access the desired report. Many versions of Mosaic will be able to display PostScript directly on your screen.
